The 4Qs Review - signing the day off as a leader

The 4Qs - or four questions - are insight generating questions designed in part for you to finish the work day on a high. That will be possible because the tool focuses on studying success and when we do that the brain produces a specific set of chemicals that make us feel good, often great!

That particular state is also the optimal state for great thinking and it's for this reason that we often have our useful insights about ourselves, our role and work - something that's essential for us to operate at optimal.

Founder, Tara Lorigan who developed this tool also calls The 4Qs "a fundamental self-respect exercise". The reason for this is that the tool is also intended to allow us to draw a clear line under our workday.

This practice of closing off work can feel truly challenging as many of us are socialised to to working long hours - that longer is better. However, this is absolutely not the case and the research on optimal performance is clear about this. In fact it's worth bearing this stunner in mind - according to neuroscientists, the pre-frontal cortex (the part of our brain that we use almost 95% of our waking hours and which does a large amount of heavy lifting in our day) has 'up to 2.5 optimal hours each day'. For the majority of humans, that optimal performance sweet spot will be in the morning. So bleeding our work into what should be our time to refresh is for the most part truly low productivity time.

So let's finish the day off by studying our successes and how we generated them, intentionally end our work day in order to spend time refuelling our physical, emotional and spiritual energy - so as smart humans, we will build the habit of going as hard on our downtime as our uptime because we know that the quality of our downtime is a direct predictor of the quality of our uptime.
